Kazakh-Russian Medical University is one of the largest private universities in the country (state license АБ 0137388), has passed the state certification six times (1998, 2003, 2007, 2012, 2017, 2019) and issues a state-issued diploma. Our history began in 1992, in the wake of major political and economic transformations, where an important place was given to the reform of science and higher education. It was at that time that Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the International Association of Surgeons, People’s Hero of Kazakhstan – Mukhtar Aliyevich Aliyev, together with Professor K.M. Maskeev and associate professors V.S. Golubchenko and O.A. Panova founded one of the first private universities in the CIS. Then it became known as the Kazakhstan Medical Institute (KMI). Later, in 2010, the university was renamed the Kazakh-Russian Medical University.
The educational program of the university fully meets the state standard of education. At the same time, the University has successfully tested new forms and methods of study aimed at improving higher medical education in the Republic.
More than 200 teachers, including world-renowned doctors and major Kazakh and foreign scientists, are involved in the training process. Students also have the opportunity to study and practice abroad in academic mobility programs.
Education is provided both on a contractual basis and under the State Education Grant.
We do not form large academic groups – only 6-10 people. This allows to organize individual approach to students.
Students are free to choose their language of instruction (Kazakh or Russian), and from the first year they study foreign languages intensively.
Practical training in specialized clinical disciplines is conducted in the leading treatment centres in Almaty.

Within the framework of the President’s Message to the people of Kazakhstan «New Kazakhstan in the New World» and in the context of the strategic development of health care until 2020, by the University with the support of «Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan – Leader of the Nation» and public foundation «Asar Bereke» Mobile medical complexes have been set up to provide medical and health care to the rural population of Kazakhstan. There is the PMK School of Physicians and the Mobile Medicine Training and Practice Centre.
KRMU cooperates closely with universities in countries far and near abroad. Among our partners: Federal Center of Heart, Blood and Endocrinology after A. Almazova» – Russia, «Baltic International Academy» – Latvia, Pyatigorsk Medical and Pharmaceutical Institute of the branch of SFEIHPE «Volgograd State Medical University of Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation», «Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University after B.N. Yeltsin», SFEIHPE «Bashkir State Medical University» Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, SFEIHPE «Omsk State Medical Academy» Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, «KGV Enterprise ltd» – India, European Commission\Directorate-General Development and Cooperation – Europe Aid (DEVKO), Brussels, Belgium.
Joint scientific activities have been organized, and joint educational programmes and scientific research in the fields of genetics, epidemiology, regenerative medicine and maternal and child health have been organized. Programmes are being implemented for the academic mobility of interns and residents, internships for teachers and doctors, continuing postgraduate education, and the introduction of innovative technologies in oncology, endocrinology, rehabilitation and paediatrics.
The Kazakh-Russian Medical University in all its activities is based on the principle of building a culture that gives priority to students. The University encourages students to take advantage of all opportunities to participate in and develop the cultural and intellectual diversity of the institution. The Committee consults and supports students in their endeavours, for to make educational experiences as successful as possible.
There are more than 20 student clubs and organizations in Kazakh-Russian Medical university that give the university life brightness and uniqueness. These include intellectual clubs, sports teams, charitable organizations and clubs aimed at collective and individual creative development. The Youth Activities Committee operates within the university walls. Participants of the committee are students of different courses. The Youth Activities Committee organizes student events and oversees student life.
